Chemiluminescence assay improves specificity of hepatitis C antibody detection.
BACKGROUND Antibodies to hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV) have typically been detected by enzyme immunoassay (EIA). A chemiluminescence assay (CA) for anti-HCV is now commercially available. METHODS We compared the positive rate for a CA in a HCV screening program for veterans with historical rates obtained with EIA. We also compared results in 2824 samples tested by both methods and assessed the...
متن کاملEvaluation of the VIDAS Anti-HCV Assay for Detection of Hepatitis C Virus Infection
BACKGROUND Anti-hepatitis C virus antibody (anti-HCV) assays are recommended for screening HCV-infected persons. The VIDAS Anti-HCV Assay (bioMérieux, France), based on the enzyme-linked fluorescence test principle, was recently introduced in Korea. We evaluated the clinical performance of the VIDAS assay. METHODS One hundred HCV-positive and 1,002 HCV-negative blood samples confirmed by Arch...
متن کاملCombined hepatitis C virus (HCV) antigen-antibody detection assay does not improve diagnosis for seronegative individuals with occult HCV infection.
A combined hepatitis C virus (HCV) antigen-antibody assay was evaluated for 115 seronegative individuals with occult HCV infection. The assay was reactive in one patient and negative to weakly reactive in three others (all four gave indeterminate results by supplemental assay) but failed to detect HCV in the remaining patients. Despite increased sensitivity the combined assay does not improve s...
متن کاملEvaluation of a membrane filter assay system, Ortho HCV Ab Quick Pack, for detection of anti-hepatitis C virus antibody.
A simple membrane immunoassay assay system, Quik Pack, for the detection of hepatitis C virus antibody was compared with two enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) in a study of 600 serum samples. Quik Pack exhibited excellent sensitivity and specificity: 96.0 and 99.7%, respectively, versus the ELISA-2 and 99.7 and 99.4%, respectively, versus the ELISA-3.
متن کاملNovel assay using total hepatitis C virus (HCV) core antigen quantification for diagnosis of HCV infection in dialysis patients.
Dialysis patients remain a high-risk group for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The current diagnosis of HCV infection among dialysis patients includes serological assays and nucleic acid amplification technology (NAT) for assessing serum anti-HCV antibody and HCV viremia, respectively. However, current NAT techniques are expensive and labor-intensive and often lack standardization. An assay ...
